{"id":457,"date":"2018-04-06T12:23:47","date_gmt":"2018-04-06T12:23:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ciraltos.com\/?p=457"},"modified":"2023-03-24T00:32:11","modified_gmt":"2023-03-24T05:32:11","slug":"link-azure-automation-and-oms-workspace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ciraltos.com\/staging2\/link-azure-automation-and-oms-workspace\/","title":{"rendered":"Link Azure Automation and OMS Workspace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-462\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/OMS_Icon-300x158.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ciraltos.com\/staging2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/OMS_Icon-300x158.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ciraltos.com\/staging2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/OMS_Icon.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>I had issues linking a Log Analytics Workspace and Automation Account this week.&nbsp; To begin with, there is no option to link an Automation Account from within an OMS Workspace and no way to link an OMS Workspace from within the Automation Account.&nbsp; The only option is to go into the OMS Workspace and add a solution that requires an Automation Account such as Automation and Control.&nbsp; The process is outlined <a href=\"https:\/\/www.verboon.info\/2017\/02\/how-to-link-an-oms-workspace-with-an-azure-automation-account\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Updated 11\/2018<\/strong> &#8211; Added Log Analytics to the content as OMS is getting phased out.<br \/>\nIssue below still exists, although you do not need to go into the OMS portal to link.&nbsp; It can be done simply by added the Automation and Control solution in Azure.&nbsp; The Log Analytics Workspace and Automation Account do not need to be in the same Resource Group.&nbsp; They do need to be in the East US and East US 2 Region to link however.<\/p>\n<p>The bigger problem is that when I went to configure the workspace there was no Automation Account available when I tire to add a solution.&nbsp; OMS Gave me the message:<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLinked accounts must be in the same Azure subscription, resource group, and location as your workspace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not good news if you are trying to link existing workspaces and Automation Accounts in different Resource Groups.&nbsp; That is fine for me as I\u2019m setting up a new environment.&nbsp; That lead to my next issue with the location.<\/p>\n<p>Creating an OMS Workspace gave me these options:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/OMS1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-458 size-full\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/OMS1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"379\" height=\"596\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ciraltos.com\/staging2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/OMS1.png 379w, https:\/\/www.ciraltos.com\/staging2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/OMS1-191x300.png 191w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 379px) 100vw, 379px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Creating the Automation Account gave me these options:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/OMS2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-459 size-full\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/OMS2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"395\" height=\"490\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ciraltos.com\/staging2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/OMS2.png 395w, https:\/\/www.ciraltos.com\/staging2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/OMS2-242x300.png 242w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 395px) 100vw, 395px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Notice the problem?
