Configure Windows 365 Link Devices with Intune for Time Zone and Screen Timeout

Managing Windows 365 Link devices is essential for delivering a smooth Cloud PC experience. Two settings not to overlook are time zone detection and screen timeout. These configurations help ensure accurate time settings and improve productivity while maintaining security.

Why These Settings Matter

Time zone detection ensures that Cloud PCs display the correct local time. Windows 365 Link devices pull the time zone from the connecting device, so proper configuration is critical. Screen timeout determines how long a device remains active before locking. The default setting is five minutes, which may not suit every environment.

Step 1: Create a Device Filter

Start by creating a filter in Intune to target Windows 365 Link devices.

  • Navigate to Tenant Administration > Assignment Filters > Create > Managed devices.
  • Choose Managed Devices and name the filter (e.g., “Windows 365 Link Devices”).
  • Set the platform to Windows 10 or later.
  • Configure the rule using Operating System SKU equals “WCPC (Windows CPC (210))”.
  • This ensures policies apply only to Windows 365 Link devices.

Step 2: Configure Time Zone Detection

Next, create a policy for time zone detection.

  • Go to Devices > Configuration > Create Policy.
  • Select:
    • Platform: Windows 10 and later
    • Profile Type: Settings Catalog
  • Add the setting “Let Apps Access Location” under the “Privacy” category and set it to “Force Allow”.
  • Assign the policy using the filter created earlier.

Step 3: Adjust Screen Timeout

To change the default screen timeout:

  • Create another policy in Intune using Settings Catalog.
  • Search for “Video and Display” and select “Turn off the display (plugged in)”.
  • Enable the setting and specify the timeout duration in seconds (e.g., 600 for 10 minutes).
  • Assign the policy to Windows 365 Link devices using the filter.

Step 4: Verify Configuration

After deployment, check the device configuration in Intune to confirm the policies have applied successfully. It may take 20 minutes or longer for the changes to apply.

Final Thoughts

These steps help optimize Windows 365 Link devices for better usability and security. By leveraging Intune, you can streamline management and ensure consistency across your Cloud PC environment.
